The selected area of study or catchment area was first defined in order to have a focused investigation around the 8 stations of Thomson East Coast Line (Phase 4). For the process of deciding on the scope of study area, a study amongst three average Singaporeans with different backgrounds was conducted. The conclusion is that the average walking distance covered by a Singaporean in 5 minutes is around 300 meters. The findings are in the table shown below.

In the 2030 master plan report, the Singaporean Land Transport Authority (LTA) stated that "by 2030, 8 in 10 households will live within a ten-minute walk of a train station, making moving about Singapore substantially easier." So, using the walking pace found in the table above as our guide, we estimated the distance to be 600 meters for a 10 minutes' walk.
Datasets were gathered from data.gov.sg in order to complete the suggested analysis, and the dataset "Master Plan 2019 Rail Station layer" was used to gather details on the locations of the Thomson East-Coast Line Phase 4 stations. The eight stations' surroundings were seen using an OpenStreetMap overlay that was incorporated into the software.
For the Service Area Approach, the roads layer from Geofabrik was used. The data was filtered by using the expression function: fclass = “unclassified”, “residential”, “living_street”, “pedestrian”, “service”, “track”, “footway”, “bridleway”, “path”, “steps”, “unknown” as only walkable paths were needed.
